One of its functions is to make part of semen, the fluid produced during ejaculation. This fluid is called prostate fluid. This fluid also keeps sperm healthy for fertilization. The urethra runs through the prostate gland. This is why many men with prostate cancer experience urinary difficulties. If a tumor grows, it can put pressure on the urethra, ultimately slowing the flow of urine or not allowing the flow at all.
