What is a Series Circuit and a Parallel Circuit?
A series circuit is one where the current flows through the components one after another. Hence the name series. A parallel circuit branches off and the current flows through all the components side by side then regroups at the end. A series circuit means that the current is the same in all components and the voltage is shared depending on the impedance (resistance) of each component. But sums to the input voltage. A parallel circuit has the voltage the same for all components and the currents in each path sum to the total current. In a house everything operates off the same voltage so it must use a parallel circuit.
