What is a sore throat? How does it develop?
A sore throat manifest itself in a reddening and/or inflammation of the mucous membranes in the throat. It can be a symptom of an infection caused by viruses or bacteria; in most cases it is yet another symptom of a common cold. One has to differentiate between pharyngitis (inflammation of the mucous membranes in the throat), laryngitis (inflammation of the larynx or voice box), chorditis (inflammation of the vocal cords), and tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils).
