What is a Student Aid Report?

The U. S. Department of Education will process your FAFSA in approximately four weeks. You will then receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail. The SAR will reflect the information from your application and, if there are no questions or problems with your application, your SAR will provide your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). This is the number used in determining your eligibility for federal student aid. Be sure to list Thomas Jefferson School of Law (Code 013780) on your FAFSA, so that we may electronically receive your SAR.

Once you have completed and mailed, or sent electronically, your FAFSA you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) directly from the Department of Education. The SAR contains all of the information that you reported on your FAFSA. Most importantly, the SAR will tell us if you are eligible to receive any federal financial aid, and will also include your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Your EFC indicates how much money you and your family are expected to contribute towards your college education for a specific academic year. Your EFC is based on your family income for the previous tax year. You will need to read the information printed on the first page of your SAR to determine if you have been selected for verification by the Department of Education. If you are selected for verification, you will need to complete a verification form and submit additional documentation before we may complete the processing of your financial aid application.

These are forms you receive from the Central Processing Center after you submit the Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). They contain all the necessary information needed to determine your federal aid.

The SAR (Student Aid Report) is the report you will receive after completing the FAFSA. It includes your answers to the questions on the FAFSA and should be reviewed carefully. The SAR also includes your Estimated Family Contribution (see below). UTSA will receive the information from your SAR electronically and will be used to award your financial aid. It is important that you read your SAR to determine if mistakes were made on your FAFSA. As long as there are mistakes or errors, the college will not be able to award you financial aid. If your SAR indicates that you made an error, you will need to make corrections online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
