What is a Summary Annual Report (SAR)?
A Summary Annual Report (SAR) is a document produced each year summarizing plan year asset activity and balances. ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974) requires that you distribute a Summary Annual Report for the plan to each participant within 9 months (or 11½ months with filed extension) from the end of the plan year. This report may be provided in written format, e-mailed or publicly posted.
