What is a synoptic pathology report with discrete data fields?
Synoptic pathology reports are electronic reports in which each type of information has a specific place and format (or a “discrete data field”). This format standardizes the way the information is collected, transmitted, stored, retrieved and shared between clinical information systems. All cancer pathology reporting is standardized to align with the pan-Canadian endorsed College of American Pathologists (CAP) Cancer Checklists™ and electronically sent to the Ontario Cancer Registry based on the North American Association of Centralized Cancer Registries (NAACCR) e-Path data and messaging standard.
