Automated wells are a subset of all GWSI sites. Approximately 200 wells are designated as “Automated” wells statewide out of over 43,700 GWSI sites. ADWR has deployed automated data collection systems in the form of pressure transducers and shaft encoders. These systems measure water levels 4 times daily and store the data electronically. ADWR retrieves the data quarterly by downloading the data to a laptop or flash memory card. Some of the systems are even equipped with GOES telemetry systems for near real-time measurements.
