“An avulsion fracture is an injury to the bone in a place where a tendon or ligament attaches to the bone. When an avulsion fracture occurs, the tendon or ligament pulls off a piece of the bone.” Reading more into the article I found, I don’t think that it is an easy answer (healing time). It depends on severity, your age, health, and how well you take care of yourself during the healing time. Based on the description of the fracture, I would say it was more serious than a “normal” fracture based on the fact that there is a portion of bone pulled away by a tendon. Instead of just a bone break, now you have tendon slightly detached. -I’m not a doctor, and base my assumptions off of the reading I did after seeing your question.

I had a Navicular Avulsion fracture 3 years ago (almost to the day). It is more serious than a normal fracture as you’ve not only fractured or broken the bone, you’ve torn the soft tissue (ligaments, tendons etc) attached to and surrounding the Navicular bone. The bone heals in about 4-6 weeks, but the soft tissue will take a lot, lot longer. Mine took a full year. When you cut your skin, new tissue has to form over the cut, causing a scar. the scar takes months to settle down. The same is true of internal tissue. Your foot will be swollen and stiff for several months to come. The remedy? RICE Rest – lots of it! Ice – A bag of frozen peas in a wet tea towel for up to half an hour up to 2-3 times a day when it’s really bad. Compression – Tubigrip (or whatever brand) compression stocking bandage, probably doubled up, on for much of the day for the first few weeks after the cast has come off. Elevation – Your big toe should be above the level of your heart. Whenever you’re resting, put yo

A navicular avulsion fracture is very common- avulsion means when a bit of the bone has been chipped off.
