What is an Explorer?
Fire Service Exploring is a career-oriented program of the Boy Scouts of America in which youth gain knowledge and hands-on experience related to a career in the fire service and emergency medical services (EMS). The Exploring program provides youth members with knowledge and experience to promote character development, leadership development, and personal fitness. Clermont Fire Department Explorer Post 600 is open to young adults between the ages of 15 and 21, or 14 and at least in the ninth grade. Members must maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average (“C” average) in order to remain active in Explorer Post activities. Firefighters, Paramedics, and other adult staff over age 21 oversee the Explorer Program in the capacity of Explorer Advisors. Explorer youth members attend training sessions related to fire and EMS and may be eligible to complete training towards certification as Firefighter, Emergency Medical Care First Responder, and/or Emergency Medical Technician. Clark was an American frontiersman explorer during the last half of the eighteenth century. Like many frontiersmen who are driven to explore by their need for wide open spaces, Clark explored vast areas of wilderness. According to Havinghurst, Clark’s name is “synonymous with the settlement of the Ohio, adventure in the Kentucky wilderness, conquest of the frontier lands of Illinois and the winning of the West for a new nation.” Clark’s explorations brought new options for people.

It is called, “The South Americas Explorers Club.” I never joined and probably never will, but it is a good thing. I shared a coffee one time with the manager in Lima, Peru. I am a Hobo and the dues at that time were 40 dollars. This is a lot of money in Peru. I could live for 20 nights in a hotel for that. Too rich for my blood. I be barefoot Hobo. I stopped into the “South American Explorers Club.” in Quito, Ecuador just before my trip down the River Napo to Iquitos, Peru. This trip is not that common and I was hoping to find some exploration advice. This was the second encounter and would have been the time I may have give them the 40 dollars.
