What is an HVAC Technician?
HVAC technicians maintain and repair heating and air-conditioning systems in residential, commercial, industrial and other types of buildings. They maintain, diagnose and correct problems by adjusting controls and testing the performance through the system using special tools and test equipment. Those specializing in heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration work on systems that control temperature and humidity. They may design, install, service and/or maintain equipment. Those specializing in building maintenance learn many of the same skills and may maintain the structural integrity of buildings. They may be responsible for the upkeep of mechanical, plumbing and electrical equipment as well as grounds maintenance. They may do painting, drywall, plastering, woodworking, pool maintenance and some custodial work.
