What is an ID3 tag? Why and how should I create them?
An ID3 tag is some additional text that is embedded into an mp3 audio file to help describe specifics such as the artist, track title, album, genre, etc. ID3 tags allow mp3 players and software audio players to display on-screen information about what you’re listening to and organise your files by artist and album. ID3s were created so that the listener/owner would have all the relevant information about their mp3s permanently attached to the file itself. Creating ID3 tags is as easy as right-clicking on an mp3 file in a standard computer music player and selecting ‘Get Info’ (iTunes) or ‘Advanced Tag Editor’ (Windows Media Player) and then entering/editing the information there.
