What is an LED HDTV?
An LED HDTV is an LCD HDTV with new backlight technology. Instead of using cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) used in traditional LCD HDTVs to light the image on the screen, LEDs use light-emitting diodes as the light source. LEDs provide a brighter picture and deeper black levels than CCFL lighting. LED TVs that can selectively turn areas of the screen on and off, such as local dimming or edge-lit HDTVs, can produce deep black levels. LED HDTVs are also more efficient and less toxic than traditional LCDs that use CCFL lighting that contain mercury.
