What is Arctic Transect 2004?
For the 2003-04 school year, NOMADS and the University of Minnesota will take classrooms around the world on a new arctic adventure: Arctic Transect 2004. Join Team Arctic Transect 2004 as we set out to document arctic climate change dogsledding the territory of Nunavut. Students will gain proficiency in core disciplines while interacting with fellow students, researchers and explorers in the field. On the trail the team will document historic Inuit activities, traditional ecological knowledge and life today in the remote communities visited along the trail. Traditions and knowledge from today’s Inuit Elders will be passed onto younger generations, linking the present with the past, using some of the most recent technological innovations available. During the expedition, trail highlights, reports, a standards-based K-12 Curriculum and Activity Guide, cultural information, chats, video and much more will be available at PolarHusky.com.
