Ans: The Ghana Standards Board calibrates and certifies dispensing pumps at the petroleum product retail outlets half yearly. This is to ensure that the volumes of petroleum products discharged into the fuel tanks of customers are accurate and commensurate with the money paid by customers for petroleum products. The National Petroleum Authority also conducts unannounced checks regularly to ensure that the operations of the retail outlets do not pose a threat to public health and safety. The NPA will soon come out with tit-bits of do’s and don’ts at the stations. To avoid being cheated by pump attendants at retail outlets, consumers are always advised to ensure that the pump display is always at zero zero, before products are discharged into their fuel tanks.
