What is being researched in regards to offshoring?
The survey design is intended to establish a comprehensive, longitudinal database for tracking and researching the many issues involved in offshoring and increasing U.S. competitiveness. The offshoring research will objectively track firm level data, key performance metrics and current perceptions of financial, operational and political risk associated with offshoring operational models. The effects of offshoring on displaced knowledge-based workers will be explored along with issues relating to the impact of global economic integration at federal and state policy levels. The research will provide a backdrop for discussion on ways to provide assistance with retraining, counseling, workforce development and job creation for displaced workers. A separate paper will explore displaced workers who have been able recreate themselves in a new economic environment.
