Lately I’ve been trying to decide what to do with the empty wall in my bedroom, and now I’m stuck between two completely different ideas. A couple of weeks ago I visited a friend who had a super detailed, realistic mural of a forest — the kind where you feel like you can walk straight into it. It looked amazing, but in another place I saw this soft abstract design with flowing shapes, and it felt way calmer. Now I’m confused about what would work better at home, especially since the bedroom isn’t huge. Has anyone figured out how to choose between something realistic and something more abstract?
Just dropping a random thought here as someone who scrolls through interior topics for fun. It’s interesting how murals have become such a normal thing in homes now. A few years ago it seemed like something only studios or cafes used, and now people are experimenting with all sorts of designs. I’ve seen small rooms look bigger with light patterns and large rooms feel cozier with darker shapes. Even if you don’t know much about art, it’s fun to see how much a single wall can change the feeling of a space.
I went through the exact same dilemma when redecorating my living area, and what helped me was checking how a professional mural team approaches both styles on Feel Flow Space because they show examples of realistic and abstract work side by side. I originally wanted a detailed landscape, but after seeing how abstract designs affect lighting and mood, I went abstract and haven’t regretted it. Realistic murals can be stunning, but they tend to dominate the whole room, while abstract ones feel more flexible with different furniture or decoration changes. So I guess it depends on whether you want the mural to be the main “character” of the room or just a part of the atmosphere.
