What is block scheduling and why is it used at New Day Charter School?

Block scheduling means that classes are completed in half a year. Junior and senior high students typically take 3 classes in the fall and 3 classes in the spring. Each class meets for 90 minutes. Research has shown that high school students are more successful focusing on a few classes as opposed to taking six or seven different classes at one time.
