What is Canadas position on environment in the FTAA?
• Canada strongly believes that liberalized trade is a key component of sustainable development and that environmental considerations should be addressed in the context of trade liberalization initiatives. We believe that trade policies and environmental policies need to be mutually supportive and the right of governments to regulate in the public interest assured. • The FTAA is an integral component of the Summit of the Americas process. The FTAA process directly reinforces and complements the objectives of the Summit process, including better protecting the environment.
