What is Computrace?

Computrace is an asset tracking software installed on some IBM computers being deployed under CTCI. The DOE had been using this management system to track and monitor computers leased through CTCI. The theft recovery guarantees laptops reported stolen and not recovered within 60 days a reimbursement of up to $1000 by the Computrace vendor. A laptop, however, must have made an internet connection within 30 days of any reported theft to be eligible for this reimbursement. However, we’ve concluded that it is no longer economical to continue with this service.

CompuTrace is now included with all new notebooks purchased through BSC with the MassAdvantage Notebook Program. When a notebook computer with CompuTrace has been reported stolen logs onto any network, this special software sends a message to a worldwide call center. Through Internet tracing, the call center will assist in retrieval of the stolen notebook system. Find more information on this program at http://www.computrace.com.
