CAS is a set of hardware devices and connected software used at different stages of distribution through which the channels are transmitted in encrypted form. With the CAS, a subscriber has to only pay for those channels they wish to watch. With the help of a ‘Set Top Box’ (STB) and ‘smart card’ the consumer will have only those channels they wishes to watch decrypted by the smart card. The MSO authorizes the subscriber to view channels they pay for.
