what is difference between nessus tool and retina tool ?
This was selected as Best Answer Greetings, Raviraj Both Retina and Nessus are vulnerability scanner applications, they use a database of well-know security issues (mostly officially published by vendors or vulnerability research companies) and, through scripted tests, they assess the chance that the systems are vulnerable to them. In order to accomplish the job, they do network IP scanning, so they may do quite a bit of noise in your network, and even interfere with its normal operation. They are also fastly spotted by IDS and firewalls. In Nessus case, also, you can give it a privileged user credentials, and it will login on the scanned systems with them, and also do local checks (patches, configuration issues, etc.). As far as I know, both of them are largely outdated, with a lot of badly written tests, false positives and thousands of security vulnerabilities for which they don’t have any available check. Unfortunately, the open source alternative (as of now, only OpenVas) are even
