What is DirectX 10?
Microsoft DirectX is an advanced suite of multimedia Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) built into Microsoft Windows operating systems. It is now a recognized standard for multimedia application development on the Windows platform and enables software developers to access specialized hardware features without having to write hardware-specific code. Since its introduction in 1995 Microsoft has updated the DirectX API several times to provide faster and better hardware access. As the ability to provide faster rasterizing in low-end machines has reached a limit, Microsoft has decided to provide better multimedia experience specifically for high-end machines. According to Microsoft, DirectX 10 will be able to display graphics up to 8 times faster than DirectX 9 but will run only on machines having the Windows Vista operating system. Since its conception, Microsoft has changed DirectX 10 API’s name several times – WGF (Windows Graphics Foundation), DirectX 10, DirectX Next, Direct3D
