Here is a domestic and unromantic love. This modern love hinges on the couple being alone. Their time for this is short. Those in their care, aged parents and young children are asleep. The people who share this house are out. So, on the bottom floor of this shared rented house sit our modern lovers. It is the silence they most enjoy. The day to day pressure of caring, gardening and working has taken its toll. This stillness and this silence is their happiness….poor as it is. Their great hopes of a better life of excitement has been worn down to just sitting still and waiting for the cat to come in and break the trance! It is a sad poem of lost hopes and depression in the face of the grim reality of life!
