What is EQUIRECTANGULAR Map Projection?
A map projection is an algorithm for mapping a three-dimensional object onto a two-dimensional surface. In this equirectangular projection, the meridians (vertical lines) and parallels (horizontal lines) are perfectly straight and equally spaced. We use the equirectangular projection when processing images whose center latitude is between 65° S and 65° N. For further information, see the USGA Map Projections page.
