What is HELLP Pregnancy?
HELLP is the name of a disease. This is a placental disease. As mentioned that it is a placental disease, so it is obvious that it occurs in pregnant women. HELLP pregnancy occurs during the last three months of the gestation period. It usually refers to the high blood pressure of the woman for several reasons. HELLP means: H: Hemolysis of red blood cells EL: Elevated level of liver enzymes Low number of platelets: (platelets are type of cells which help in clotting of the blood. Exact reason for this HELLP pregnancy is not known. Most of the times; women who have history of blood pressure problem get this disease during their pregnancy. At the same time it is not a hard and fast rule that only patients of hypertension fall prey to this disease. Chances for women with normal blood pressure history; are also liable to be attacked by this problem. Another reason can be if the expecting woman is over 25years of age.
