Fire Fighters come in many varieties these days from EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) to the really butch fellows that hoist monstrous hoses (literally). One wouldn’t want to try and hoist about monstrous hoses about without the proper degree of physical butchiness. One can do this with a female physique; but the boys on the corner might chuckle moe than cat call (at least until they find out what other uses a “butch physique” can be applied to besides moving a hose (or would that still be moving a hose? ~ I’ve no sense of double entendre’). So, primarily, firemen should be butch fellows (or the female equivalent), unless they are going to speciallize in medical or scientific fire analysis type stuff. Even then, firemen can be in short supply in very large fires and SHOULD, ideally, be able to able to do any job called for. Lives are after all at stake in some jobs and this is one of them.
