Ipratropium bromide inhalation solution (Atrovent® inhalation solution) is a prescription medication used to prevent airway spasms (also known as bronchospasms) caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD includes both chronic bronchitis and emphysema. This form of ipratropium bromide is inhaled using a nebulizer (a device that changes liquid medications into fine droplets that are inhaled into the lungs). Ipratropium bromide also comes in an inhaler (ipratropium bromide HFA) and a nasal spray (ipratropium bromide nasal spray).
