What is it like being a foreign exchange student?
Being a high school exchange student is a marvelous thing — and colleges and universities love them, often giving preference and even scholarships! By only being in the ninth grade now, you are at the perfect time to make the decision you want to go, looking at your junior year for the exchange. I recommend the top three organizations — AFS, YFU or Rotary. Rotary is the cheapest, but the most competitive. However, by already taking Japanese you’re showing some intense motivation! You should also check with your high school counselor for a recommendation. Chances are, there are exchange students in your school and he/she will have an idea of reliable programs. As an exchange student, you will live with a host family and attend a Japanese school. You will do what they do! You will be immersed in the culture and the language.
