What is Java 1.1 extension?

Java has gone through a lot of versions in the past few years. .9, 1.0, 1.0.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.4, 1.1.5, and 1.2 is now in beta test. The browsers (Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer) were built to handle Java 1.0 until VERY recently. If you wanted to use Java 1.1 in Netscape, you had to add a plug-in, called the Java 1.1 extension, to get Java 1.1.x code to run properly.
