What is kiln dried firewood?
KD firewood is dried in lumber kilns (ovens). It is consistent in size, quality and moisture content (10 to 15%). It is USDA Certified, free of bugs and will produce the highest BTU rating (heat) of any firewood. It is very clean and can be stored inside. Kiln Dried firewood is much more efficient than poor quality air dried wood. Simply stated… it burns the best of any firewood available. • Why is good firewood scarce this year? Due to recent economic conditions there has been a decrease in the amount of trees made available for firewood while there has been an increase in the demand for firewood. The NYSDEC has also imposed a 50 mile quarantine radius restricting the transport of firewood in NY state.These major factors have lead to a shortage of quality firewood that is prevalent on Long Island and throughout the Northeast.
