What is LizardTech and where did the name come from?
In 1992, LizardTech was created as a spin-out of Los Alamos National Laboratory. Via the Federal Technology Transfer Acts, LizardTech was selected from a national bid as the exclusive commercialization vehicle for the MrSID image compression technology invented at LANL. Because we were a high-tech business located in Santa Fe, NM, we choose the name LizardTech. In 1996, LizardTech moved to Seattle in order to take advantage of all the support and become a major player in the image compression and decompression market. Since then, the entire Los Alamos image processing team responsible for the original development of the MrSID technology has left the Lab and now works for LizardTech. \ Q: What is MrSID?
