Mainstreaming is a way to enter a child into the general (regular education) population. Many children in special education have certain strengths which would allow them to take some classes with non disabled children. My kids were mainstreamed. They are both physically disabled with multiple disabilities. They also have some learning disorders. They both attended the public school system, they had some classes in the special education rooms, such as English and reading, but they attended the regular math classes and science ect. They did require an aid to scribe for them. This person helped them take notes during lectures and they took tests orally with the instructor. They both actually did very well in certain subjects which helped there confidence quite well. They both graduated with there peers. My son received a standing ovation from his graduating class when he received his diploma, and guess what, my daughter is now an avid reader, she reads 3 to 4 novels a week! So mainstreami
