What is meant by schema synchronization?
Let us say we are developing a Payroll application and that we have a development database with version 17 of the Payroll schema installed. When the data modellers release version 18 of the schema, we are likely to want to make our “working” schema identical to this “reference” schema. This action is referred to as “schema synchronization”. In this context, the synchronization is of the schema stuctures and not the data contained in those structures. You may of course, wish to preserve this data. There are two basic techniques for doing this.
