What is meant by the expressions “pseudonymity” and “pseudonyms”?
According to the principle of data minimization it is necessary to transfer as little personal data as possible. Since it is impossible in most cases to avoid future personal evaluation, a solution is offered by the use of pseudonyms. Pseudonyms can occur in various forms such as fantasy names chosen directly by the users, like e.g. in chat rooms, or automatically assigned transaction numbers. Generally all graduations between actually existent identity and non-personal anonymity that depend on the requirements of the corresponding communication relationships may be described as pseudonymity.
