What is Motion Palpation?
Motion Palpation is a chiropractic diagnostic procedure. Palpation is the medical term for feeling. Motion Palpation is feeling for motion. The doctor is positioned behind the sitting patient to begin this special examination. Using his hands, the doctor examines the spinal joints (facets) for either normal motion or is the joint fixated (stuck). The doctor literally “motion palpates” or feels for the motion that should normally exist between the vertabrae. This allows the doctor to determine quickly and painlessly exactly where a specific chiropractic adjustment is required. Fixated joints are adjusted enough times to bring about the normal full range of motion and thereby promote the healing process. Minor fixations that develop today, if left unattended become major and more difficult problems in the future and can be the underlying cause of deteriorating health.
