This is what my Guinea Pig says when I pick him up. I’ve looked up samples of guinea pig sounds but I can’t tell if he’s purring or what. What do you guys think? Here is the link to the video of him making noise. You can’t really see anything in the video, but you can hear him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1who4mk5…

My guinea pig does this as well. If hes scared, he makes a low purr and he shakes a little bit. This just means hes scared. Once you hold him a lot, and he gets used to you, he should stop doing that. The happy purr is when they sqeak at the top of their lungs. They do this when one of their favorite people come in the room, their just fed, or their happy for some other reason.

Does he buck at you with his hind legs? The hindquarters and sides are actualy not the best place to rub them. Specialy the hindquarters, they are very sensitive about being touched there, and scratching it..well, he shows you how much he dislikes it by bucking around. “Burring” is DISPLEASURE, DESPITE what alot of people think. Alot of people associate the “burr” as a pur sound because when an animal like a cat purrs it makes a vibrating sound. They make this sound when they experience displeasure through either touch or sound. That’s why the more you get into it the more he tells you to “please stop”. The lower “burr” noise is a dominance thing. He will also shake his butt and do what is called a “rumblestrutt”, a dominace dance.. The actual purr is what alot of people describe as “talking”. It’s a coo like noise they make when you pet them around the head/front area, scratch behind their ears. My pig Grimace does this alot. I will have him sitting on my lap and he will coo, and end
