What is open-coil springing?
This is sometimes known as the traditional Bonnell spring system, the most widely used throughout the bed industry, particularly in “cheap” beds and bedstead mattresses. Electrically tempered wire is formed into large coils. Helical wires connect each spring to form a sleeping platform. When one spring is pressed down, all adjacent springs (and their connected springs too) will compress. This can cause sleeping partners to roll together, sleep disturbance, discomfort, and poor spinal support.
