Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease ( PAOD) or hardening of the arteries results from formation of atherosclerotic plaques caused by a number of factors including: • Aging • High Cholesterol • High blood pressure • Diabetes • Smoking • Obesity • Lack of exercise • Family Genetics Untreated, PAOD progresses to: • Reduced blood flow • Clot formation • Leg pain (exercise or rest) • Ischemic ulcers • Gangrene • Amputation
