What is Postscript?
PostScript is a page description programming language developed by Adobe in the 1980s. It is perhaps the most versatile and most loved language for printers worldwide. It is also capable of drawing to computer screens and any kind of drawing device at any resolution. However, Postscript is not interactive. Technically, PostScript is known as a page-description language. Files that contain documents described in the PostScript language are normally called “PostScript files”; hence, PostScript is known as a file format as well as a language. Most laser printers and imagesetters understand the PostScript language. The Adobe Acrobat Distiller software also understands the PostScript language. Sometimes a simple example can make things crystal clear – so here is an example of what a PostScript file looks like.
