What is Project Oriented Environmental Management System (POEMS)?
POEMS procedures have been designed to provide IPT’s with an ISO 14001 compliant methodology for the management of the environmental performance and liabilities of equipment and services through the acquisition process. POEMS enable IPT’s and others, such as contractors, suppliers and advisors to: • Identify and apply appropriate mitigation measures to reduce adverse environmental impacts to tolerable levels • Identify and manage any residual impacts • Exploit positive environmental impacts of acquisition projects. POEMS stresses the importance of identifying and consulting with stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) so that IPT’s can discharge their delegated responsibilities.
