WHAT IS PROJECT WITTENBERG?
LCMS partners helped the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church (SELK) of Germany purchase the “Old Latin School” in Wittenberg, Germany, which sits next to the town church and about a half mile from Castle Church. The four-story building, built in 1564, is being renovated to become the International Lutheran Welcome Center for an estimated $4.2 million. It will include: • a welcome center • a chapel • diaconal (mercy) office • bookstore • facilities for groups or individuals • limited lodging accommodations The intent is for the SELK to plant a German-language congregation and reach the largely unchurched community in Wittenberg with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
