What is qui tam?
Qui Tam refers to provisions regarding a citizen’s ability to lay claim to a portion of a financial settlement or judgment. Often, it ties into the ability to sue on behalf of the government when fraud is committed against the government. There are four entities that can be sued in these Qui Tam cases. They are: federal government contractors, healthcare professionals, state and local governments and private universities that accept public funding.
