I thought it might be short for Alexander, but obviously not. I think his parents were probably high and watching something like home and away when they named their children. Rex and Brett- WTF!

I had a male friend many years ago he was called Russell and he liked to be called Rex. Think Rex is King and Rex is his name not short for anything.
