What is ride sharing?
Ride sharing is the shared use of a car or van by the driver and one or more passengers, usually for a commute to work. It’s the most common alternative to driving alone in Central Virginia and the most flexible. Sharing the ride gets people out of single occupancy vehicles. This reduces congestion on our highways as well as reduces our impact on the environment. RideShare is a free commuter matching service available to anyone who lives, works or attends school in Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa or Nelson. Interested commuters who register with RideShare are sent a personalized match list of commuters who go the same direction at approximately the same time of day.
