‘Rubber banding’ is the practice by which an object is drawn by fixing one (or more) points, and then stretching the remain points out, connected by a line or lines that grow and shrink according to various properties. If you imagine a rubber band with a fixed set of mechanical properties, and fix one point, whist stretching out two others, you will find that the lines that hold the shape together follow specific rules with respect to the properties of the rubber. I believe (although someone may correct me) that ‘inking’ or ‘inking-in’ refers to actually drawing the rubber banded shape once the points are in the correct positions.
