What is shellfish aquaculture?
Shellfish farming is the growing of aquatic invertebrates in a natural marine environment where stock, which is privately owned, is regularly replenished, nurtured, protected from predators, monitored and harvested by the farmer. Shellfish farmers do not feed their stock. Shellfish are filter feeders that consume phytoplankton already in the water column.
