What is Six Nations exploring?
A. Six Nations, Canada and Ontario came to agree in 2004 to put Six Nations court case on hold while we all explore whether settlement is possible of any or all of the claims raised in litigation by Six Nations of the Grand River. These claims seek an accounting and damages with respect to over 200 years of history and transactions. If progress in our exploratory talks continues to be made, we will work towards reaching an out of court settlement for each claim named in the litigation. Q. What court has Six Nations been involved with? A. Since 1995, Six Nations has filed its Statement of Claim in the Ontario Court of Justice (General Division), now the Ontario Superior Court. This level of court is the trial level. Depending on the outcome of trial, all parties (Six Nations, Canada and Ontario) have rights to appeal to the Ontario Court of Appeal and then to the Supreme Court of Canada. Q.
