What is the ATAPI/EIDE interface?
IDE stands for Intelligent Drive Electronics, which was developed in the mid-1980s for the purpose of connecting a hard disk drive to an IBM AT personal computer, or to a PC that is compatible with an IBM AT personal computer. Enhanced IDE (EIDE) has been standardized to meet the demand for connecting to a high-speed, large-capacity hard disk drive or CD-ROM drive. ATAPI (AT Attachment Packet Interface) provides the additional commands needed for controlling a CD-ROM drive or tape drive.
