What is the axial resolution of a ProFlex (i.e. the thickness of the observed optical slice)?
The thickness of the optical slice obtained with the Cellvizio® depends on the characteristics of the ProFlex in use. An S-series ProFlex has an axial resolution of 15 µm and a working distance of 0. This means that signals are only acquired from the first 15 µm of the tissue it is in contact with, and the signals originating from layers deeper than 15 µm are removed (optically and electronically). Z-series ProFlex microprobes have a 70 µm axial resolution but their working distance is greater than zero, which means that they focus the light at a given distance inside the tissue, of about 100µm. The MiniO has a axial resolution of 5 microns at a working distance of 30 or 100 microns.
