What is the best Desktop Linux distro for everyday computing?

0

I want to make the switch from Windows XP to Linux on my desktop computer. I have worked with Linux in a server environment (RedHat and CentOS) for several years, so I’m not a novice, but I don’t have much experience with normal desktop apps in Linux. I have used Ubuntu 7 (Gutsy Gibbon), but that’s it in the desktop realm. I just want to be able to use my computer with the normal apps: OpenOffice, Music, Videos, Web, Software Development, etc., and I don’t want loads of driver or codec issues. Also, I plan to run Windows within a VM to give me access to additional software (and of course, all my games).

What is your question?
